This
saxophone player/composer from Arnhem (the Netherlands) is from a family
in which music played an important role. At the age of eight he picks
up the guitar and at fourteen he joins local bands as a guitar-, bass-
and saxophone player.
After graduating from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Arnhem in 1992 he
works as a musician, saxophone teacher and conductor of several bigbands
and smaller ensembles. Pop and jazz are the main influences in his music.
Writing music has become of great importance to him, being the leader
of the Hardrubber Saxophone quartet, he wrote most of the material the
quartet plays.
Recently
he released an album containing a selection of the music he wrote during
a ten month period he spent travelling Canada and Spain. A kind of a personal
''soundtrack''. The title of this CD is WAYout-Ewout.
Hardrubber
saxophone quartet
Hardrubber
is a saxophone quartet with a fresh and original sound. At times powerfull,
at times fragile, allways adventurous but never inaccessible. Hardrubber
proves that it is possible to make excting music with only four saxophones.
Founder and
baritone saxophonist Ewout Dercksen is inspired by jazz and jazzlike musical
styles. René Mulder on alto-, Rob Sijben on alto- and tenor-, and
Frank Nielander on tenor -and soprano saxophone complete the quartet.
